House Republican Whip, Alan Martinez
Alan grew up in Espanola, NM where along with his father, owned and managed a successful small business. In 1988, Alan moved to the Metro area and managed several small businesses, learning that to be a success in business he had to take care of his employees and customers.
Alan’s grandfather, Emilio, was a minister for 75 years and instilled in him the importance of serving others as a way to find success as an individual.
In 1993, Alan joined the Veteran Service Commission as a file clerk and found his passion, serving veterans and their families. He worked hard to earn the trust and respect of the veteran community by fighting for them and the benefits they had earned through their sacrifice.
In 2004, the Commission was elevated to a cabinet level agency, the Department of Veterans Services, where he served as Benefits Director, Policy Director, Legislative Director, and for the last 10 years of his career, as the Deputy Secretary having day to day responsibilities for the agency as well as working with the Legislative Body to advance Veteran Causes and Policy.
After retiring, Alan founded a consulting firm focusing on veteran owned businesses and their struggle with government agencies.
In 2021, Alan was encouraged to run for political office and after the 2021 redistricting process moved him into a new district, he decided to run for the vacant District 23 seat.
After winning the seat he used his passion for serving other to fight for his community in areas of crime, small business protection, and promoting strong family values.
Alan is married to his wife, Allison, who together love spending time with their 6 kids and 4 grandkids. He believes that family is the foundation of a great society, and when that family can succeed, provide a good life, feel safe, and get a good education, society will succeed.
